The Washington Post is really excited about its new community engagement tool, The Issue Engine, where readers can choose to endorse candidates on specific issues and share their opinions with friends on Facebook. This would be a good way to have a discussion, but there are only two candidates to choose from.
So instead of aiding discussion, WaPo is actually telling people what to discuss. And to its credit, almost every news organization in the country does the same thing, so The Post isn’t the only place doing it. But just because Obama and Romney are the only candidates that have a chance of winning doesn’t mean “journalists” should endorse that bullshit. Journalists are supposed to inform the public, not just go with the flow. If people were more informed, then maybe someone other than a Democrat or Republican would also have a chance of winning. Hopefully this helps you get more followers though.
